If you missed Kamala Harris’s speech on border security yesterday, here it is.
I’ve not seen much in the way of editorial commentary on this speech. I thought it was politically smart. She’s throwing the border security issue right back at Trump and saying he did nothing but make it worse. I wouldn’t be surprised if parts of this speech end up in campaign ads.
Today I’m having a hard time focusing, so here’s some other stuff to read:
Internal Docs Show Trump Media Investors Were Duped
Schiff introduces bill that would stop presidents from dismissing prosecution against themselves
The Eric Adams Case Is About More Than Public Corruption
We need to talk about Jared Kushner’s sketchy Saudi-backed fund
Good reads. Jeff Flake was on the morning talk show adding to the conservative republicans endorsing Harris. I was not aware he identifies as a Morman. He is not a part of the republican freak show it seems. In this strange world a guy with a last name of Flake is not a flake yet called a RINO by the current republican freak show which is totally occupied by flakes.
No two snowflakes are said to be alike, yet republican flakes do tow the same line and are strikingly similar. Physics has string theory politics needs a flake theory. Both seem impossible to understand. Too much is too weird.
Paul Waldman, The New Southern Strategy. "Encouraging racial division was the GOP strategy for half a century. Now it's all immigration."
I guess it's progress that nobody is making a big deal of Harris' race.
I watched the whole speech. She's a good communicator. The message was all about solutions to the broken immigration system. She talked about dreamers and farmworkers essential to the agricultural industry. Some of the features of the reform bill are more stringent than I like but the status quo isn't sustainable. It wasn't a speech about blame, but she laid the blame on Trump for tanking the Immigration Bill.
I saw clips of a recent Harris rally in Las Vegas, packed to the rafters and enthusiastic. I read that Harris is getting more aggressive about Trump running from a second debate.
I think Team Trump has to drop a response to Jack Smith's argument that the current indictment meets the requirements of the USSC FOR THE FOLLOWING REASONS… By tomorrow, Even redacted, it will make for interesting reading. Chutkan's order set an unusual noon deadline. Does Judge Chutkan intend to make a decision and make public the first part of Smith's document by close-of-business tomorrow? Trump can't "seal" something that's unsealed.
Trump is trying to make something out of the hurricane. I'm not sure Trump can get much traction but the perception in NC and GA about whether or not the federal government showed up to help will carry a lot of weight with voters. Biden may call Congress back for funding for help – if the GOP blocks help, Harris will hang the blame on the GOP and rightfully so.
