Gym Jordan and some other House Republicans, including Matt Gaetz and George Santos, were in Manhattan today to hold some sort of “hearing” on crime in Alvin Bragg’s district. The report at Rolling Stone suggests it was a madhouse. Access was highly restricted, including to the press, so I’m assuming the purpose of this was to generate something that will be shown on Fox News and possibly nowhere else. From Rolling Stone:
“What the fuck is going on here?” one reporter whispered to a colleague.
Indeed, that was also the question of the hour, given crime statistics in Manhattan. New York Police Department data indicates that homicides are down nine percent in Manhattan year-to-date. Shootings have dropped 14 percent in the same period, and robbery and burglary are down in the borough by 10 and 23 percent, respectively.
There’s a nifty chart of crime rates in U.S. cities based on FBI crime data that somebody maintains on Wikipedia. You can look up which cities have the highest rates of homicides, rapes, whatever. Currently, these are the top ten U.S. cities for violent crime. The numbers are the rate of murders, rapes, robberies, and assaults per 100,000 population.
St. Louis, Missouri, 2,082.29
Detroit, Michigan, 2,056.67
Baltimore, Maryland, 2,027.01
Memphis, Tennessee, 2,003.32
Kansas City, Missouri, 1,724.31
Milwaukee, Wisconsin, 1,597.36
Cleveland, Ohio, 1,556.76*
Stockton, California, 1,414.56
Albuquerque, New Mexico, 1,369.14
Indianapolis, Indiana, 1,333.96
The much-maligned Chicago is #17 at 1,098.86, which puts it in between #16 Minneapolis and #18 Houston. New York City is #59, with 538.90.
If you want the list for homicides only, the top ten are St. Louis, Baltimore, Detroit, New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Kansas City, Cleveland*, Memphis, Newark, and Cincinnati*.
*Ohio is Gym Jordan’s home state. I see that the New York Daily News is running a big headline saying that Ohio’s murder rates are far higher than New York’s, but it’s behind a subscription paywall.
In other news: The Dominion trial was supposed to start this morning, but it’s delayed until tomorrow. Some news outlets are reporting that the people who are supposed to know stuff, whoever they are, say the delay is to discuss the possibility of a settlement. There’s no official word of this from the court.
Mediaite is reporting that Trump is warning Rupert Murdoch to testify the 2020 election was stolen from him.
In an all-caps post on Truth Social, Trump urged Murdoch to “EXPOSE THE TRUTH ON CHEATING IN THE 2020 ELECTION.” Fox is the defendant in a billion-dollar defamation lawsuit filed by Dominion, which says that Fox knowingly amplified false claims about the company in order to promote Trump’s disproven theories about how the election was stolen from him and handed to Joe Biden. According to Trump, Fox’s acknowledgement that the election was not stolen from him represents a legal liability.
“FOX NEWS IS IN BIG TROUBLE IF THEY DO NOT EXPOSE THE TRUTH ON CHEATING IN THE 2020 ELECTION. THEY SHOULD DO WHAT’S RIGHT FOR AMERICA. WHEN RUPERT MURDOCH SAYS THAT THERE WAS NO CHEATING IN LIGHT OF THE MASSIVE PROOF THAT WAS THERE, IT IS RIDICULOUS AND VERY HARMFUL TO THE FOX CASE,” argued Trump, before addressing Murdoch directly. “RUPERT, JUST TELL THE TRUTH AND GOOD THINGS WILL HAPPEN. THE ELECTION OF 2020 WAS RIGGED AND STOLLEN…YOU KNOW IT, & SO DOES EVERYONE ELSE!”
Unfortunately for Trump, I suspect Rupert will listen to his own lawyers, thanks much. And “stollen” is German Christmas bread.
Yeah that's not gonna work out so well for Rupert Murdoch. The judge in the Dominion lawsuit has already ruled that Fox News' statements about the 2020 election are absolutely, totally, indisputably false as a matter of law. The only factual issue for the jury to decide is whether Fox News acted with malice.
Why didn't they settle and hide the details? Must be another angle. Maybe tomorrow.
Besides being a living and breathing example of treif recast in human form, KKKongrASSHOLEman Jim "Gym" Jordan, is also about as sharp as a bowling ball.
Yeeeeeeesh…
HE DHUUUUUUUMB.
When given a choice between right and wrong, instinctively, Gym will always choose to act in ways where he can comfort the comfortable, or afflict the afflicted.
In other words: Gym Jordan is a "Kiss-up, Kick-down-and-around" kinda asshole!
Back when he was an ASSistant wrestling coach at ("THE!") Ohio State University, when Gym Jordan could have helped ("comforted") wrestlers who'd been sexually abused ("afflicted") at the school, he, instead of immediately contacting the President of OSU, or even just ASAP telling somebody, somewhere, about this horrible abuse he knew of, he, instead, just turned his head, and looked away. And to this day, he's never looked back again
And now, Gym isn't coming to NYC to help shape legislation.
NO!
Gym's here to show support for tRUMP – or, as "The Eagles" sang, "'comfort' an old friend* who's feelin' down."
Jim "Gym" Jordan is a minion.
He is a very good minion.
But you can be sure that this "Gym" Minion would never be a minion for a good cause!
No.
He'd always would be minioning under the evil "Bad Guy!" in the movie.
*tRUMP, of course (But you knew that 😉 )
"Gym's about as sharp as a bowling ball"
Upfister is broke, that's good for at least 20
"Gym Jordan and some other House Republicans, including Matt Gaetz and George Santos were in Manhattan today to hold some sort of “hearing” on crime"
Well they should know about crime:
Gym Jordan – credibly accused of covering up rape on the wrestling team he coached.
Matt Gaetx – credibly accused and directly connected to sex trafficking of a 17 year old girl. Lot's of documentation of employing prostitutes and rampant drug use.
George Santos – Well do I really have to go into all of that?
You really can't make this shit up.

The end of the post hit on a major issue. Fox is not going to support or entertain the "Stolen Election" fantasy that is CENTRAL to Trump's campaign. The trial has not begun but I'd be surprised if Fox gets away with less than one billion in damages. I live in my own fantasy world but the stumbling block for a settlement may be a demand for apologies from every one of the offenders. The substance of the apology might require that the legitimacy of the 2020 election is not in doubt – that Fox succumbed to pressure to allow the fiction to flourish.
What's the basis for such a requirement from Dominion? If your business model is built around reliable technology to record large numbers of votes which can be tallied perfectly in a short time, the electorate must believe in democracy. Survival as a business for Dominion requires the opposite vision that the GOP is trying to create. IDK, but is Dominion demanding Fox attest to US election integrity – and denounce the tactic which Fox fell prey to by giving the Trump conspiracy fantasies the aura of legitimacy?
In order for Dominion to be "made whole", which is legal jargon for returned to the state of being before they were damaged, Dominion may be seeking that Fox admit what Dominion can now prove AND have the actual hosts read retractions and apologies. This would be devastating to Trump and he knows it. If it goes to trial and Dominion "only" gets a billion in damages, the damage is almost as bad. Rupert is not gonna have a warm fuzzy feeling for Donald after taking a hit like that. The programming changes won't benefit the propaganda masters.
Regarding Jordan… the stunt today accomplished nothing. I don't think Bragg is intimidated at all. I don't think Bragg lost any votes from New Yorkers. So Trump is going to demand that Jordan do something more extreme, more threatening. More illegal… some say Jordan was dancing on the edge of breaking the law with the suggestion he could subpoena witnesses and information from SDNY. Today's show was likely Jordan's suggestion as an alternative to action that a federal court will strike down. Trump views the GOP House majority as damn near the only arrow in his quiver. I predict Trump will be more demanding of McCarthy and Jordan because Bragg isn't backing down. How far will they go? Would they rather be struck down by the court or incur Trump's public wrath?
A poll out today has 67% in favor of letting investigations and prosecutions of Trump run their natural course. A majority of Republicans disagree. To the degree that the House GOP is perceived as an extension of Trump's bid for power as a shield against legitimate prosecution for actual crimes, the voters who will reject Trump in 2024 may reject House Republicans.

OT, and last. (I know you are applauding.) Senate Republicans are trying to use Feinstein's illness to slow Biden's progress in filling the open judiciary slots. This has been one area where Biden has done extremely well. To fill the empty seat requires some Republicans allow a Democrat to replace a Democrat on the Judiciary panel. This is one more example of why the fillibuster needs to end. We can't yet but as soon as we can, we must!
If one were to perceive the world only through TV shows, one might think that about 95% of all crime happens in New York City. Just like one might think Trump is a masterfully brilliant and savvy business mogul. Maybe Gym watches too much TV.
"RUPERT, JUST TELL THE TRUTH AND GOOD THINGS WILL HAPPEN.", again with the witness tampering.
