First off — Bannon found guilty on both counts! Really fast! The jury took about long enough to eat lunch and vote. He could get up to a year on each count!
I’m still digesting the J6 finale. But here’s one of the lighter moments:

It’s probably too soon to say that Hawley’s political career is over, but whoever runs against him in 2024 can just run that YouTube video as their television ads. Here you can watch the run with different soundtracks. We can say Josh was Hawl-ing ass. See also Philip Bump, WaPo, Hawley’s effort to reap political rewards from Jan. 6 scampers off.
It’s especially amusing to recall how last year Hawley was making speeches about the virtues of manliness that liberals allegedly oppose. These virtues include courage, as I recall.
But on to the main point, which is Trump.
After the committee documented (once again) that Trump took absolutely no steps to stop the violence until he finally told the mob to “go home” in a video released at 4:17 p.m. — and he only did that because everyone else in the White House pressured him to do it — Trump is still not taking responsibility. All along he has blamed Nancy Pelosi for turning down some alleged offer of 20,000 troops to protect the Capitol. I understand he repeated that claim on Truth Social after last night’s hearing. But there is no evidence this offer was ever made, and in any case the Speaker of the House has no authority whatsoever over troop movements. Pelosi can neither green light sending troops to the Capitol nor turn them away. That’s the Commander in Chief’s job, and he wasn’t doing it.
Last night’s hearing emphasized that Trump really wanted to march to the Capitol with the mob. Really, truly. After the encounter with the driver of his car he got back to the White House and sulked in his overcoat for a bit. What did he imagine he would do? Did he envision leading the mob into the House chamber to stop the counting? That really would have been a coup attempt, plain and simple.
Liz Cheney and the crew made the point that no responsible human being would support Trump for another term in the White House. That’s going to be lost on many of them, of course.
Great way to start the weekend- two odious characters get their comeuppance. Bannon's so obviously nuts, the jury's speedy verdict was almost a given, but Hawley – those surveillance videos shown to the world were a delightful surprise.
No one was I visited with showed confidence that Bannon would get convicted. So many doubt that any right-wing obstruction can get justice amazes me. I too am jaded, but the courts are not yet the arms of one party or one religious belief system. True the trend line is frightening but we are not third world just yet.
Who knew Hawley would be the early speed in Senatorial race for safety? Makes one think he had advanced knowledge of the extent of the threat. That is footage he will never outrun IMO.
The overwhelming majority of January 6 defendants have been getting convicted. These D.C. juries are dominated by Democrats, so I wouldn't worry about getting convictions. That's the last city a Trumper would want go to trial in.
Haw-haw-hawley sets a new world indoor record in the 100-meter weasel-sprint!
9.9 seconds!
WOW!!!
I'd like to see if we can somehow synch-up his fist-bump, sprint, and bolt down the stairs to Benny Hill's theme music, or The Three Stooges'!
I like how Stephen Colbert did it, the fun starts at 8:45
Dancing banana? Please.
I do not know if this is for keeps but it's potentially huge.
"
A recent survey conducted by CNN and the research firm SSRS found that 47 percent of those aged 65 and over said they would vote for a GOP candidate if the midterm congressional election for their district were held “today,” with slightly more people aged 65 and over saying they would vote for a Democratic candidate (49 percent).
This is a major turnaround from May, when a previous CNN/SSRS poll found that nearly two-thirds of those aged 65 and over (62 percent) said they would back a Republican candidate in the midterms, compared to just 37 percent of seniors who said they would back a Democratic candidate.
According to the results, the GOP has seen a 15 percent drop in support from those aged 65 and over—one of the main demographics in any election—in just two months between the two polls being conducted."

H important things came out of Thursday night's presentation.
One was the exposure of Josh Hawley as a total buffoon. It wasn't probative of Trump's state of mind or culpability. It was a sideshow, but a devastating blow that had to have been irresistible once they saw Hawley's Brave Sir Robin on video. If it kills Hawley's political future, it's a major bonus. Pity he isn't running this year.
The other mission accomplished was elimination of any b.s. story Trump might consider deploying to cover what he was doing, which was nothing helpful at all. The image of him booting the photographer out of the room while he laid out on a sofa to watch his goons try to overthrow the country and kick some ass.
Trump grew up with the New York Wise Guy mystique, and he loves thug behavior.
Today there are editorials by the editorial boards of the Wall Street Journal and New York Post — both owned by Murdoch — criticizing Trump’s inaction on January 6. I hope this signals a shift in how he’s covered in Murdoch Media, at least.
I just checked and it's 1.2 miles from the White House to Congress. If Donnie really, really wanted to be with his people, he could have waffles over there in an hour or two.
I doubt Donnie could survive walking 1.2 miles.
He should have jumped in his presidential golf cart and lead his army of insurrectionist like the triumphant Joan of Arc at Orleans. Why, he could have had Lindsey Graham ride along as his Aide-de-camp or handmaid, whichever role Lindsey would feel more comfortable being in.
