"Barbara O’Brien’s wide-ranging account of Zen history is conveyed with a master storyteller’s ability to keep the forest from getting lost in a myriad of trees. Wearing her scholarship lightly, she blends just the right amount of skepticism about her hagiographic sources with a deep appreciation for the Dharma." — Barry Magid, author of

But her music lives on forever!
What a great voice, all without modern studio gimmicks like auto-tune, all natural as they say!
The "Queen of Soul" died with a hell of a lot of R.E.S.P.E.C.T.!!!
Incidently, Aretha died on the same date as Babe Ruth and Elvis. Pretty damn great company, no?
She was one of the first, if not the first musician that really stood out for me. When I heard her sing, all I could say was "wow!"
I caught a bit of an NPR retrospective on her, that had a recording of her singing just a few years ago. Her voice was still great even in her seventies.
One of my favorites:

What a singer; what a woman!
She embodied, gave, and symbolized so much.
A great leader died today.
