  1. I’m old enough to remember how the Smothers Brothers mocked Nixon without mercy in defiance of the network suits until they were finally fired (despite high ratings). Sarcasm and satire are powerful weapons which affect public opinion. Will the press corp be allowed to bring Super Soakers on Monday?

  2. I wonder how long Spicer is going to last. I’m sure the job is difficult enough in normal circumstances, but when you have to explain and defend for an out of control narcissistic egotistical maniac it must really be difficult. The prestige and the paycheck of being the press secretary is nice to have .. but is it worth the price of your credibility and dignity? How can any person be so stupid as to try to defend the image and actions of a pathological liar.

  3. I think Sphincter is swimming in a familiar pool and only now beginning to perceive that the deep end is WAY deeper than he thought. He seemed nice……

  4. Swami,
On the other hand, you can tell future employers, “Look, if I can handle what he said and did, I can get consumers to get past the fact that your latest children’s toy explodes with shrapnel that kills anyone within 10 feet. Have you also thought, if it doesn’t sell to kids, about marketing the toy to the US Military? And if not, ISIS would definitely be interested. “”

  5. He seemed nice…
Yeah, I know. That’s why I wonder if he can go the distance. There is something in his persona that leads me to believe that lying doesn’t come naturally to him. He projects a stress, like he’s not comfortable with his arguments and explanations when he tries to gloss over truths that are beyond evident. It might be that because he has the most public exposure his vulnerabilities as being human are more pronounced.
He just doesn’t come across as a full fledged SS man. My guess is he is going to crack under the pressure.
I know that if I were in his job I’d be long gone.. The vanity insanity of defending Trump’s claims of his inaugural crowd size would have sent me out the door. And Spicer’s argument that Trump believes what Trump believes would have been a strong enough clue for me to realize that Trump has some serious mental health issues, and that our parting time had arrived.

  6. There’s an unwritten rule that a surrogate must not hurt the principal. If Spicer resigns now, it will be an indictment of Trump’s pathology even if Spicer says he’s “decided to spend more time with his family.” So Spicer injures his credibility with the GOP in future job applications if he hurts Trump before Trump has self-destructed with the voters.

The problem with being the public face of Trump lies is that Spicer becomes personally associated, the “Baghdad Bob” of Trump, who will get no credit for his loyalty when Trump implodes. The only way Spicer can succeed is if Trump prevails – and this will become obvious to a lot of people who have wrapped themselves with the Trump flag – and it means they will risk big on the tyrant’s victory.
