Christie? Fuhgeddaboudit.

Via Balloon Juice, lights are going out for Chris Christie.

But amid the bustle, there was an absorption of a new reality for the governor and those closest to him: that his bid for the White House seems increasingly far-fetched. A political team long characterized by its self-assuredness now sounds strikingly subdued, sobered and, realistic about his odds.

In two dozen interviews over the past 24 hours, many of the most trusted allies and advisers to Mr. Christie acknowledged that winning the Republican nomination required a domino-like series of stumbles from his rivals and an unlikely breakthrough for him. …

… Instead of crowing about fund-raising records (as Jeb Bush is) or traveling the country as an announced candidate (as Senator Marco Rubio is), Mr. Christie’s team is in a sense starting over now, hoping that the developments in the legal case represent a new chance at a campaign unburdened by the threat of direct legal action against the governor.

On Friday allies and aides of Christie were indicted in Bridgegate, but not Christie himself. I haven’t seen anyone say that “direct legal action against the governor” is out of the question in the future, however.

  1. Well, the way David Wildstein pleaded guilty right off the bat for two conspiracy counts I would suspect that he rolled over and provided enough information to induce the other two indicted conspirators to give Christie up to minimize their culpability. Their situation won’t be like Scooter Libby’s where they know they can avoid a stint in the big house by having some good connections..
In any event Christie won’t be out from under the shadow of complicity until the entire matter is put to rest, and seeing how the wheels of justice turn so slowly, and the 2016 primary season is accelerating at warp speed…I think Christie would be wise to focus his ambitions in a direction that takes him away from the national spotlight.

  2. Governor Krispy Kreme Christie, down…

All we need now, is for Governor Scottie Wanker of WI, that corrupt SOB, to have to face his own charges.

The GOP is afraid that when/if Democrats win, they’ll be as ruthless and corrupt as they themselves are.
What they don’t realize is, that Democrats aren’t ruthless and/or corrupt – D’s know that there’s enough money for everybody when they’re in charge!
    Legal or illegal…

  3. Governor Krispy Kreme Christie, down…

He was never up…In a sense, you could say he was just a GOP trial balloon..No pun intended.

  4. Christie is just a glorified bully and a thug.. What politician in their right mind would tell a constituent to shut up or they’ll get a knuckle sandwich.
It’s said that you’re known by the company you keep, and if Christie’s closest political allies and confidants are so so cruel and callous as to inflict intentional aggravation and untold hardship on the innocent children of New Jersey just to satisfy Christie’s massive ego and political ambitions…It speaks volumes about their perceptions of Christie’s character.
Would Jesus find it acceptable to shut down the GW bridge on the first day of school? I don’t think so!..Jesus would weep. Suffer the little Children to come unto me? The suffering that Christie and his cohorts imposed on those innocent school children surely wasn’t the kind of suffering that Jesus had in mind.

  5. “WWJD?!?!?!?!”

Well, obviously, he’d close the bridge down for gay’s and single women with children – and charge them extra!!

  6. Gulag: Jesus told me to tell you that the only thing he can do is remove them from the earth plane and send them to either heaven or hell. He says Satan won’t accept them because there are too many there already and God told him if he tries to bring them into heaven, he will revoke his special savior status.
