The Michigan and Arizona primaries are on Feb. 28. Nate Silver has Mittens heavily favored in Arizona, but Frothy is way ahead in Michigan.
Mittens opposed the auto industry bailout, which turned out to be a great success. Steve Kornacki writes,
So as he campaigns in Michigan now, Romney is playing dumb, pretending that the auto industry’s comeback actually validates what he said in ’08 and that Obama — whose administration nudged GM and Chrysler into structured bankruptcy — was actually following the course that he prescribed. The only difference in their approaches, as Romney tells it, is that he would have forced the auto companies to rely on private financing to get through the bankruptcy process, and not the federal government.
Rich Yeselson adds, “this would almost sound sensible except for the fact that—hello!—there was a monster financial crisis in 2008 and 2009. The entire international credit system was frozen—there was no private capital interested and available for such a massive project.”
Meanwhile, Frothy is running around wailing that the Obama Administration’s agenda is not based on the Bible.
It appears the GOP is sticking to its “religious freedom” frame of the president’s contraception coverage policy. They don’t know when to fold. See also “2012: The year of ‘birth control moms‘?”
Mitt,
Private financing?
Ok, where were you and the rest of the “Engulf and Devour” crew of corporations and rich people?
Why didn’t you use your supposedly rather estimable coalition building skills put together a consortium of uber-rich people to bail out the auto industry?
Hmmmm?
Oh yeah, I forgot – you’re much better at deconstruction, taking things apart, firing people, and selling off what remains, than construction, putting things together, hiring people, and making a business whole again.
And Rick, no government should ever be based on The Bible. That was tried a couple of times throughout history – with disasterous consequences. From Papal Rome, to Puritan Early America, it has never worked.
I know that as President, you’ll want to be in charge of who gets to begat with whom (and what, when, where, why, and how), but are you willing to punish the rest of us who like pork chops, shrimp, lobsters, oysters and clams?
Beware, before you install in this country your Biblical Ricklical Presidency!
Ban pork, as The Bible commands, and you’ll lose the South for generations!
“Mittens opposed the auto industry bailout, which turned out to be a great success.”
Yup.
““this would almost sound sensible except for the fact that—hello!—there was a monster financial crisis in 2008 and 2009.”
Yup. And I expect banker-type vultures would have been delighted to out source Ford jobs to China, too.
And, I notice the wingers TARP a lot– which is totally irrational. That was a BUSH program, where Obama had to make a call RIGHT AWAY. The program worked; the banks didn’t fail, though many are still weak, and the money got PAID BACK.
Look, I know that PayPal has made some mistakes, but blaming them for all the crap that happened in Rome… oh. Never mind.
Not off-topic, but you will have to check it out to see why.. Go to you tube and search on ‘Candice Bergen and muppets’. Of the skits listed from that show, watch the one captioned ‘Put Another Log on The Fire’. I only wish I could post it.
