Yes, New York just passed the same-sex marriage bill. New York is now the largest state in which gay marriage is unambiguously legal. It’s always a wonder to me when Albany does anything useful, so it’s all quite astonishing and gratifying.

Little by little we find the right way.
I’m shocked!
Knowing the NY State legislature, the only thing I thought they could pass was their own stool’s – and even then, not until delays, and bribes were paid.
I am very happy for gay people here, and everywhere – because if NY can do it, so can another state.
A lot of people think NY is a very liberal state. And it is – because of NY City, Albany, and maybe a couple of other cities – but the further from NY City you go, the less liberal it is. In many rural areas, NY is Alabama or Mississippi, but with worse winters.
I wish I were in The Village last night and today. That must have been SOME party last night, and will continue until early Sunday morning.
TPM’s photo’s outside The Stonewall, where this whole thing kind of started as a movement:
Ah yes, and in the great “liberal” state of Minnesota we are going to get to vote to add the “defense of marriage” to our constitution.

Hey, can I steal that for my beloved California? After all, our Lege is the only one, so far, to prefer constipation to their paychecks.
Porlock,
Feel free.
But don’t steal – liberate!
Heaven knows I’ve “liberated” enough from others. 🙂
Oh, btw, add the word ‘arguments’ in there somewhere!
Encouraging article at DailyKos about how this recent victory in gay rights, and perhaps Universal Single Payer Health Care is going to come from the states, one at a time:
As I watched this splendid spectacle of citizen power unfold last night in New York, I thought to myself, I wouldn’t like these images if I ran a murder by spreadsheet insurance company. It’s only a matter of time before their wall of hate, greed, exclusion, and injustice starts to crumble.
The fight for health care rights will start in Vermont and California and perhaps New York, then it will spread to other states. It’s only a matter of time. The insurance industry is on the run, their days of death are numbered.
Writer is a health care activist, and while I admire her optimism, I don’t know if I’ll live long enough to see this dream realized (and I’m in pretty good health).
