The article is quite amazing.
The comparison to the Danish cartoons is crossing domains (speech vs construction), but overall the case is good. His point on misinformation distorting public opinion is spot on. I don’t understand otherwise why so many people would oppose what is, in essence, a peace and bridge-building project.
There’s a lot of people apparently convinced that Imam Rauf is either a bomb-throwing terrorist himself, or a direct supporter of them. They don’t seem to acknowledge even the possibility that the project could be in good faith.
