More McChrystal

Gen. McChrystal has been relieved of command and replaced by Gen. Petraeus, who was already commanding Afghanistan and Iraq, so I don’t know how that’s going to work.

Late yesterday I had fun watching the news headlines whir by on the Web. First the news (originating from The Telegraph, I think) was that General McChrystal had resigned. Then it was that he intended to resign. Then it was that he might offer his resignation. By noon or so today it had retreated to “might be asked to resign.” But “relieved of command” works.

One of the best analyses of l’affaire McChrystal is by Simon Tisdall at The Guardian. One of the dumbest is by WaPo‘s Jackson Diehl.

Update: See also analysis by Adam Serwer at TAPPED.

  1. I was waiting for Wolf Blitzer to bring Miss Cleo on to channel Gen. Omar Bradley on what Obama should do.
The coverage just prior to Obama’s speach was about as bad as anything I’ve seen on their political coverage.
I’m just glad they didn’t have Cable TV news in WWII and D-Day. We probably would have lost. Sheesh…

Especially not with a Democrat in the White House.

  2. So how many people think this is Mac’s way of telling us the operation is a lost cause?

  3. Glad to see McChrystal go..It’s a shame that his policy for Afghanistan didn’t get sacked also. But that’s alright, just a few hundred more dead Americans, and a couple of hundred billion dollars to go before America decides it’s best to get out of Afghanistan. Maybe in a couple of years Obama can negotiate the copyright from Kissinger to use that trusty old slogan ” Peace with Honor” and get us out of Afghanistan looking like a winner.

I was sorry to hear Petraeus was given McChrystal’s slot. When it comes to Petraeus..and his lavishly praised Iraqi surge ..my thought is… “All that glitters is not gold” I hear Basra is enjoying two whole full hours of uninterrupted electricity these days. Iraq is festering!

  4. I ll be glad to see Petraus gone, I m tired of this BS. Perpetual war is no good.

  5. Wah! Cocaine Kitty may be a freaky ole lady, but she stands with her man. Now they can spend more time together. (Is it American flags she now “embroideries” on his… uniform?)

    Good grief, I’m old.
