  1. Let me see if I got this right, Republicans.
You’re against government intervention. You’re against socializing help to the poor, the old, the sick, the disadvantaged. You want to defund UI, SS, Medicare, Medicaid, Health Care, all because they’re a waste of taxpayer money. But helping to pay for BP’s “Big Oil Spill Whoopsie” is a great use for taxpayer money. BP can’t shoulder it alone. It needs help, or it may get sick and die (not that corporations ever really can die).
    OK, I got it.
So, you’re against socializing anything for people – that’s Socialism, Goddamn it, and we can’t have that! But SOCIALISM for Whoreporations is a-ok.
People can be allowed to grow sick and die, but not a Whoreporation!
SAVE THE WHOREPORATIONS! Fuck the people…
Please, John, make this what your party runs on in November. Pretty please? I’m sure the Whoreporate donors will give you tons of Whoreporate cash for your help in having the TAXPAYERS pay for a private industry’s greedy fuck-up.
It’ll help you gain the majority in the House, and probably the Senate, too. Please John, don’t pay attention to people who might point out that of all of the hypocritical positions your party has taken over the years, this one is the absolute infinite jest on the public.
How long before he has to walk this comment back?
    I hope never.

  2. Damn it, Boehner realized he gave himself athletes tongue with his stupid comment, and has walked it back. According to “Political Animal:”
“Soon after, Boehner’s spokesperson said the Minority Leader “didn’t understand” what Beutler asked. Now, Boehner’s office is saying we didn’t understand the Minority Leader’s answer.

According to Boehner spokesman Michael Steel, the GOP leader stood by what he’s said since May 3 — “Not a dime of taxpayer money should be used to clean up [BP’s] mess.”

“He’s said for a month now that BP will bear the full burden of this disaster,” said Steel.

The “responsibility” Boehner was talking about was not taxpayer money cleaning up the spill. It was whatever reform and restructuring comes after the leak is stopped.”

The question he was asked was very clear cut. This is a pretty lame excuse.
I believe Boehner when he said, “Not a dime of taxpayer money should be used to clean up [BP’s] mess.” After all, why use dimes? They’re worth nothing, and don’t absorb a whole lot. Now, you use million, or billions of taxpayers “Benjamins,” now you’re talking. They’re not as absorbant as a Vitter diaper, but better than a dime.
If the Democrats were smart, yeah, I know, they would hang this around every Republicans neck from now until the end of eternity.

  3. I’m somewhat surprised that the Republicans aren’t asking for tax cuts for the oil industry in general, and BP / Haliburton in particular, to incentivize them to clean up the spill, and to help cover the cost. In fact, tax cuts are such a magical cure-all, I’d be surprised if a deep enough cut didn’t stop the oil flow outright, in addition to cleaning up what’s already been spilled. A tax cut is strong mojo.

I see the Obtuse Angle in Nevada is already calling for deregulation as a solution to these kinds of problems. That’s at least in character.

  4. Dave S — it’s just a matter of time with the tax cuts, IMO. It may be that they’ll keep quiet about it until after the November elections, though.

  5. @Dave S – LOL re the “Obtuse Angle” moniker – only geometry/trig freaks would get the reference.

  6. “Obtuse Angle”

Nothing like an insult that goes right over the head of your typical dimwittedteabagger, good stuff.

Obtuse Angle, do that mean she’s eatin too much? She looks pretty spry to me. Is that some sort of science or something?

Is it just me, or don’t she look kooky? She’s either done some serious drugs in her youth or she may be the result of some persistent inbreeding, maybe both. Either way something aint right, she’d be scary with the power of a single senator. I can’t think of anyone who could be less qualified than Harry Reid, but the republicant’s found one, amazing. I don’t want to see it but I’d bet she wins, Harry is just that fucking lame.

  7. I wouldn’t be surprised if BP is one of those corporations who already pay next to nothing in taxes or got money back.

  8. This from a recent book authored by a guy who traveled the length of Afghanistan interviewing and getting to know the ‘natives.’ Question: Why did you become a Mujahid? Answer: Because the Russian government stopped my women from wearing head scares and confiscated my donkeys.

Question: Why did you fight the Taliban? Answer: They forced my women to wear burqas, not head scarves, and stole my donkeys.

When living in Yemen I ased my cook, Mohammed Saif why the Yemenis periodically kicked out the Jews. Answer: Because they’re very white and they smell funny.

Yemen is a fifth-world country – there is no sixth. People live literally close-to-the-bone. We of the West may think their ‘answers’ hardly qualify as ‘answers’ to what we think of as ‘weighty’ questions, but they’re not. Their world is not our world.

Our State Department, which should know better, not to mention members of
Congress, who don’t want to know better, have yet to understand that there is a tried-and-true tenet in war, know the enemy. And what better example of how miserably short we fall in ‘knowing’ the enemy than Lieberman arguing that we urgently need to built $2.5 billion submarines to fight them – ‘them’ being ‘terrorist’ dinghies.
