Update: Steve Benen —
What a strange conversation. Fitzgerald had Blagojevich arrested on Tuesday morning, and I haven’t heard any prominent Democrats or progressive voices accuse Fitzgerald of anything. How can the left “turn around and say he has an agenda”? That might make sense, if someone on the left turned around said he has an agenda, or even criticized him in any way at all. But since reality shows otherwise, Kilmeade’s and Malkin’s comments are even more absurd than usual.
Indeed, Kilmeade and Malkin have it backwards. First, Democrats continue to find Fitzgerald so credible, the party immediately turned on Blagojevich, and called for the governor’s ouster.
Second, there are some people who’ve “turned on a dime” to go after Fitzgerald, but they’re all prominent conservatives, not liberals.
Indeed, Ali Frick noted a wide variety of conservative activists, pundits, and officials, all of whom went from supporting Fitzgerald to attacking him, the moment he indicted Scooter Libby.
The irony is rich.
I can’t bring myself to click that link. I’m sorry; I just can’t. *shudder*
Just that rabid right wing projectionism again. As a liberal, I have a high regard for Fitzpatrick and thank him for his good–whether he indicts a Dem or a Repug. Most of us don’t have the double standards of the right wing and their talking idiots. Thus, they won’t understand there is no outrage here that Blago has been indicted.
Michelle has selective hearing. She missed the part where the Gov dissed Obama and the candidate Obama preferred if they were not going to bargain. The democrats as a whole in Congress have blasted Blagojevich – Obama has called for the Guv to step down.
The guy is entitled to a trial – how much further can Democrats go without creating a defense for the dipshit that he was convicted by the executive & legislative branches (and in the press) before the trial.
What’s potentially rich is that the Guv has no scruples whatsoever and the only cards he has to play is to offer to roll over on any politicos & business entities who engaged in illegal acts. Which undoubtable has a lot of fat cats wetting thier pants in IL. They may need to build a whole new prison wing.
What we have to remember is that this projection phenomenon is a deliberate strategy. Malkin et.al. understand the irony. They do it anyway because it creates a narrative that takes on a life of its own. Often, as probably here, the narrative never makes its way very far beyond the domain of wingnuttery, but then again it might, and when it does, it yields big dividends because the MSM gives it the air of legitimacy in terms of a reasonable position to take.
This is a big problem and it is enabled by the fact that we have 2 medias, not one.
Great observation that this was projection but I wonder how much of it is subconscious. By making the accusation of someone else doing it they have their own built-in excuse when they partake of the opportunity that comes their way.
Funny, this thing about accusing others, wrongly or not, of what you are about to do youself. Sure it’s projection but it somehow seems more insidious and twisted than simple projection.
“They’re going to do it” really means “We’re going to do it” and they’ll just cite their own accusation from the past as proof.
Ooops, and only now do I read shredder’s comment. Ditto on the two medias…at first I was going to say shame on her and the news organization she rode in on until I realized it was Fox.
Sorry for afterthoughts but the accusation seeks to lower the bar (for some the recollection of the accusation is as good as the facts), something that will serve the righties for later when they seek a plaing field with less ethical expectations which will serve their purposes…let them get away with one thing or another.
We have seen this time and time again, enough that we should readily recognize the pattern.
They realize that most Americans are so challenged to recognize facts that from their murky memories will arise a dismissal as they conclude “Oh, they all do it.” This is the slime in which wingnuts thrive and prosper, but only when we let them.
Malkin is not only Rush’s girl toy but she constantly whines as if she really know something instead of just being a Fox terrior lap dog. She lacks any real creds for the drivel that she writes, spending 95% of her time sucking up to anyone that will give her the time of day most of which she earns by patting them on the backside. If she could honestly see the situation from both sides and write accordingly I would give her some credibility but instead she does the fox flop and is flat on her back in front of anyone who will give her the time of day. I do believe that it is time for her to get a job and work for awhile to possibly gain some real experience and get over herself. Ditch the mirror and get a job, then try to write.
I am also sickened of her cheerleading for anyone in uniform. It makes me feels that my uniform is tainted by someone without a clue as to what is entailed in earning one. If she is so supportive of us she needs to enlist then I will believe her support until then she just uses vets as yet another mirror to she herself as the saviour of the “real american ” world. She is the classic example of an empty head and puny heart calling attention to herself….. the Paris Hilton of the blogishere.
I clicked on the link and had a good laugh at one of the commenters. He argued that Dems must be hiding something, that we arrested Blagojevich quickly before he could talk about who else was in on the scam.
Some people just can’t be pleased. Wait to arrest him, and they accuse you of trying to sweep it under the rug. Arrest him immediately, and they accuse you of trying to shut him up.
And I’m still waiting for when we’re going to turn on Fitzgerald. Yep…………still waiting………….. (looks at watch) …………… any minute now…………………………hmm………………………… did I miss my cue? No? Ok, i’ll just be right here……………
