"Barbara O’Brien’s wide-ranging account of Zen history is conveyed with a master storyteller’s ability to keep the forest from getting lost in a myriad of trees. Wearing her scholarship lightly, she blends just the right amount of skepticism about her hagiographic sources with a deep appreciation for the Dharma." — Barry Magid, author of

As you know, my little brother died of lung cancer this year.
A terrible disease.
So sorry to hear of Newman’s passing
erinyes, I am sorry for your loss too. I lost a dear friend (nonsmoker) to lung cancer in 2001. She fought so hard.
Paul and Joanne used to make regular trips up to Stratford, Ontario, to the Shakespeare Festival there. I went up in 2002 and 2006, and always hoped (in vain) to see them. I will always think of them as the coolest show-biz couple ever. I’m very sad for Joanne and their family. And for the country… he was a great American, very generous.
A great activist, a great human being, and a great philathnropist (and, a great actor) has died,
Which of our current “Leader’s” could claim any one of these as an attribute (with the exception of Jimmy Carter)?
Bush? HA! Cheney? HA X infinity…
We will miss you, Mr. Newman… I’m not a religious man, but, God speed to you, Sir… If there’s a Heaven, you are there. If not, you died with the knowledge that millions loved you, and will mourn the lack of your presence on this planet
If only we had more like you…
Thanks for the kind words, jr16.My brother left a bit of a mess in his wake which I’m currently cleaning up, as well as working 40 hrs with a lot of travel, working a second side business, and moving my equipment to a new location due to a sale of the storage property.
Luckily. I love my profession, and my wife of 35 years is nothing short of fantastic. And this site gives me boundless hope.
Cheers!
I was so sad to hear the news this afternoon. He was good at everything he did, wasn’t he? Including making salad dressing. (Walking through the grocery aisles just won’t be quite the same.)
