I don’t know if Spitzer should resign, but this is a huge letdown for New York progressives.

This is disappointing to me, too; but, there are so many Republicans who have been caught at this and not resigned. Why should a Democrat?
Second, do we want to spell out what it is that men always fall for? And that makes them smarter, somehow?
Is this situation with Spitzer what women don’t want to spell out about men’s stupidity? I guess the women involved does qualify to be called a high priced call girl..a real high price, especially for Spitzer.
I gotta say.. Spitzer at least had the wisdom to handle the situation straight forwardly, and not compound it with denials. You gotta respect that.
There ain’t no such thing as $4,300 worth of pussy…
Must’a been something ‘fancy’ goin’ on…
A male executive holding a stressful job, wifes is menopausal, … sounds vaguely familiar. Human condition denied.
This is more like the culmination of a series of letdowns with Spitzer. He already lost his ethics halo with his sneaking investigation of Joe Bruno and lost the progressives with his fight with health care workers. He came in as the next FDR (only a year ago!), but had already sunk to being another Pataki. Before this happened. He has no friends, and he’s done.
R.I.P., what could have been.
In order to minimize collateral damage, Spitzer must disappear as immediately, completely, and permanently as possible. The climate that makes this necessary is a poor, squalid, and miserable one, but there is no use pretending it is different from what it is.
That said, the timing of this is completely suspicious and needs to be understood. All prosecution is political theater. (Yes, I am aware of all of the implications of that blanket statement and I stand by it.) This is a warning shot across someone’s bow, but whose, and who fired it?
Well… I have one question, and I have yet to see an answer.
Has he actually broken any laws?
You can hire an escort and not break any laws. It depends on *why* you hire the escort, and what actually happens.
I’ve heard that they might try to get him on shifting the money around but that… I dunno. That sounds awfully weak to me, without an underlying crime to accompany it.
Does anyone else smell something here? Shades of J.Edgar Hoover. The politicization of DOJ? I know it’s a leap but how is it that Bush can get enough Dems to cross over on critical votes – for torture – for finanicng the war? Sadly, the only folks with the authority to ask who else is being spied on, have been spied on and are safely on a leash. Yeah, I am paranoid, but am I wrong?
