The “Duke of Flatbush” was a great, great player. I’m a huge Mickey Mantle fan, and I acknowledge and appreciate how great Willie Mays also was, but Duke was right there with them in his prime, just maybe a hair below – but don’t tell any Brooklyn Dodgers fan that, or you’ll get in a fight. The “Duke” led all the majors in home runs and rbi in the 1950’s.
If I’m not mistaken, he was the last living everyday player from “The Boy’s of Summer.” Koufax and Lasorda are still alive. I wonder how many others are left?
