Election day is lively — in NY 23, there are reports police are being called to polling places to settle down overzealous Hoffman supporters, who seem mostly from out of town. They’re standing too close to the polling places and screaming anti-choice slogans at people going to vote.
Polls indicate that Hoffman should win fairly easily. It wouldn’t surprise me if this sort of behavior causes some people to switch their votes to someone else, however.
In New Jersey, in spite of some predictions of a Christie win, the GOP seems to be bracing for defeat. They’re already making up stories about voter fraud.
I read a report last night (on Daily Kos?) that Dede Scozzafava might jump ship and become a Democrat. She said some nice things about Cuomo as governor, and her endorsement of Hoffman’s Democratic opponent both helped paved the way. Should be fun.
As for the GOP insistence of voter fraud, I’m sure ACORN is behind it. [end snark]
I liked this article by Digby about the polarization in our country, and how this means we basically have a parliamentary system, but the Democrats have yet to catch on. A very old theme, but she expresses it well.
The good news about the purge within the GOP is that these fringe people (such as Hoffman) should be easy to defeat (most of the time), but when they get into power, they are total obstructionists and impossible to work with. And so there is an argument for encouraging more kooks to run, destroying the GOP even further, but a great danger should they win.
Is it just me or is a a little bit crazy that the fact that some conservatives are attacking the Republicans sort of glossed over, I mean these people are ripping the GOP up and then they are acting like that is not weird at all.
Not that I am complaining, of course.
Hoffman himself doesn’t even live in NY23! And he showed that in a recent press conference where local reports asked him basic questions on what his policies would be regarding local issues and Hoffman had no clue what they were talking about.
What I have noticed is that the Conservative mouthpieces accuse Obama of doing exactly what Bush actually did for the last eight years. This Hoffman / NY23 is a micro version of that…
where’d my other comment go?
