What’s Wrong With This Party?

David Kirkpatrick of the New York Times warns us that the Feingold censure motion is rallying Bush’s base.

There’s like, what, 12 of ’em left? Oooo, I’m so scared.

Yesterday the Pew Research Center put Bush’s approval rate at 33 percent, noting that the word most often used to describe the President these days is incompetent, followed closely by idiot and liar. Words appearing on the Pew one-word description of President Bush list for the first time include ass, jerk, and untrustworthy.

According to a SurveyUSA poll out this week, Bush’s approval numbers are above 50 percent in only three states — Utah, Wyoming and Alabama.

Yet at the mere mention of the dreaded Bush “base,” nearly the entire Democratic Party dashes for the bomb shelters.

Usually words come easily to me, but today I am nearly speechless with disgust at the spineless wonders in Washington. I hardly know where to begin. So I’m just going to link to a lot of other good commentary. Drop back by later and maybe I will be done sputtering in frustration.

  1. Another Repub spook tactic…..BOO!

Scare you? Didn’t think so. Sounds like they are grasping for straw and the few pieces they are finding, aren’t spinning into much gold.

  2. As to the lack of the Demospine….I seriously don’t get it. Carpe Diem, Dems? Carpe anything?

  3. Ok.. Finally. The people you can’t fool all of the time are begining to smell the fertilizer. ‘course will this translate into the wisdom needed by the masses to change our course…
“”bullets are like waves, they only rearrange the sand
History turns upon the tides and not the deeds of man”

  4. The behavior of the DC Dems is apalling. How will we ever convince enought voters that we can stand up to terrorists if the beltway crowd won’t even stand up to the Republicans.

And aren’t they even reading the polls, much less history (as the Anonymous Liberal has)?

  5. I’m with you..speechless and throwing up my hands in disbelief. What on earth is wrong with Democrats? Would they like an engraved invitation?

If they win in the November elections it will be because they were the lesser of two evils, not because they stepped up to the plate. Or at least that’s how it looks at the moment..

  6. Look at Cheney’s rating to find Bush’s actual base support. Cheney is Bush w/o the church ladies. I predict his support among the (semi) reality-based community will continue to erode until he sits at around 18-20% approval.

  7. What is so heartening about bloggers commenting here is that they and Maha remind me that a lot of folks do not succumb to spin, fear and weeniehood. Go, Maha!

  8. Man, I thought maha was making up the “ass,” “jerk,” etc. descriptors for Bush. I saved the Pew Research chart as proof to myself that she was not.

Now for some synonyms for the Dems. Getting tired of “weenie,” so how about “woosies,” “spineless,” “chickens**ts”?

I keep a trash can near the door so when I come in with the mail, all the fundraising letters from the various Dems can go straight in. If they want to win back Congress in November, they need to grow some backbone first.

  9. Personally, I’m partial to “jackass”–the preferred expression of Oscar on “Corner Gas”, a brilliant comedy on Canada’s CTV television network.

  10. I’ve been down so long that I thought I’d never see the light of day again. But this month has given me hope. I know the fight is far from over but dang it’s good to be able to take a breath. AaaOooUmmMmmm.
What is RIGHT with this party is that it will never be a blind faith, one minded one-way organization. It will always look to be a bit loosey-goosey. How many folks can’t understand the humor when Will Rogers was big enough to poke fun at himself as a democrat? It just seems to be a dry period for finding someone who can steer this fluid moral bright mass of folks. Thanks to the bumbling administration and one debacle after another, we can sit on the sidelines to watch and wait, BUT when we see something we should strike.

Congress only moves faster when a large group of their constituents (off the Hill) speak out louder and clearer then their p/r advisers.

We have six years of a proven record that THIS ADMIN CANNOT RUN THIS COUNTRY. (aboveboard)

This month we have heard GOP analysts remarks that are so dead that the minute the words come screaming out they fall silently to the floor. Dead! “Xenophobia on Port deal, we haven’t been attached after 9/11 (in America), traitor for pointing finger” at a king with no clothes with a court of crooks. Etc.etc.

After 6 years living as Alice in Wonderland others are finally discovering reality is just outside of this rabbit hole.
BUNGLING BUSH has an approval rates at 33-36% HELLO!
    Democrats, Middles and Liberals All:
SAY IT LOUD AND CLEAR! I’M BACK AND I’M PROUD!

Sidelines heads-up please. Operation Swarmer is the latest attempt at doing anything in Iraq that looks like you can do something militarily or forcibly with this broken pot.

  11. I read this article in LA Weekly by Marc Cooper about a Republican party conference held a few weeks ago in Phoenix.

While the R’s are frightened of Bush’s disaster in Iraq and of the Abramoff scandals, Cooper aptly summarized the situation between the two parties:

The face-off in 2006 seems to be a confrontation between two failed parties, and the tension will be generated by seeing which one fails more.

  12. I’m liking Nader. He’s the only one that makes sense, the only one with integrity and honesty, THE ONLY one with a brain.
Who would the Dems float in ’08? Hillary? Rocky and Bullwinkle again?
    How about the Republicans?
McCain? (God forbid) Bill Frist? Juliani? Jeb?
Between the mess the Repubs have made and the Democratic weenie world, Nader would kick their asses.
But we must impeach the Smirking imbecile first before he destroys the world to prove a point….
